National Grandparents’ Day is this Sunday, September 8th, 2019. This holiday is an observance and not a public holiday in the United States. The U.S. Congress passed the legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents’ Day in the U.S. On August 3, 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation.

The official song for National Grandparents’ Day is “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa” by Johnny Prill. The official flower of the day is the forget-me-not which blooms in spring. Many people honor their grandparents through a diverse variety of activities such as gift-giving and card-giving. About four million greeting cards are sent each year in the United States on National Grandparents’ Day. This day is an opportunity for people to showcase their love towards their grandparents.
