Unfair Divison

Lindsey Hur, Staff Writer

January 9, 2020 —  Pamphlets are being passed introducing the electives that will be separated between Beatty Middle School and Buena Park Jr. High. The pamphlet states that the electives Beatty Middle School will offer are: Art, Advanced Art, Digital Art, Video Production, Orchestra, and Intro to Strings. Although Beatty will be the “S.T.E.A.M.” school, which stands for Science Technology Engineering Art Math, Buena Park Jr. High is supposed to be the “Visual and Performing Arts” school, but the art seems to be missing. The electives that will be offered at Buena Park Jr. High include: Industrial Arts, Culinary, and AVID. Although this list seems normal, Beatty is taking the art electives, leaving the supposed visual and performing arts school without art. If Beatty were to offer these courses there would be no reason to attend BPJH. Families send their children to Beatty and BPJH for certain courses, but now that the schools have mixed and divided electives unfairly, it will be harder for parents to decide what is best for their children.
