Chinese New Year

Although the world has already celebrated the start of a new year and decade, another celebration is held for a new year, according to the lunar calendar, which is Chinese New Year.  This holiday started during the Shang dynasty (1766 – 1122 BC).  Both Chinese and foreigners celebrate this holiday, and many do traditions in order to bring good luck.  Common activities are wearing red clothes, getting red envelopes with money inside it, and sweeping the house. The original purpose was to honor gods, their house, ancestors, and bring families together through a feast.  The observation is on January 25, this Saturday, so remember to wear red if you will celebrate it!
