Why Do Stars Twinkle?

Rese Reynes

While I was up at 12 am, I looked out my window and saw a star twinkle, which gave me another science related question which is, why do stars twinkle?

So, I Googled it.  The answer is: The turbulence in the atmosphere makes stars twinkle. The technical term for this is “astronomical scintillation,” it’s an effect, yet again, due to the atmosphere. Stars seem like pinpoints in the sky, it’s easy for the atmosphere to disturb the light coming from the star. Along with the that, stars physically change in brightness over time.

So now you know 🙂
