On Sunday, the day of the Super Bowl, there was a small plane crash in Yorba Linda. It was a twin-engine plane that broke apart in the air before crashing into a house, killing the pilot and four people in the home. The four victims are unidentified and the coroner will need more time because the bodies were burned in the fire. Official identification will require the usage of other tools, such as DNA. Based on what the surviving members of the crash said, the house was a place for a family gathering. The crash injured three other people and damaged other homes. Debris was left over four blocks of Yorba Linda.

According to CNN, “At a news conference Monday, NTSB lead investigator Maja Smith said Pastini left Fullerton Municipal Airport in a 1981 Cessna 414A around 1:35 p.m. Sunday.  It was not clear what his destination was, Smith said. According to preliminary radar data, the plane made a left turn, climbing 7,800 feet and went 10 miles out before making a rapid descent into the neighborhood.”

The plane caused a huge fire in the two-story home, that spread to the next house.  It was on Monday that the pilot was identified. Carrie Braun, a spokeswoman with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, said “We were contacted by the Chicago Police Department and reported that they have no record of (Pastini) him as being a former officer.” According to Chicago police, Pastini never worked for them. The National Transportation Safety Board officials said Pastini was a commercial pilot. After the crash, a stolen police badge from the 1980’s with Pastini’s name on it, and other documents were found. So far, the cause for the plane crash and the identity of the pilot has been a mystery.
