Regionals Debate Tournament!

This Saturday, on April 27, three of Buena Park Junior High’s debate teams will be going to regionals. Regionals is a modified parliamentary debate tournament with over 12 leagues competing, of these twelve leagues they only take the most qualified. This will be held at Claremont McKenna College. Debaters will be competing in the tournament from morning till night.

Now, this tournament is not all fun in games. Debaters would have to prepare twelve speeches for six topics! Some of the prompts that will be debated are:

  1. Expand social security to provide an adequate retirement.
  2. The U.S. president should serve a six year term.
  3. Facial recognition technology does more harm than good.
  4. Eliminate farm subsidies.
  5. The first amendment should not protect lying in campaigns and elections.
  6. Autonomous weapon systems do more good than harm.

The three remarkable hardworking teams that would be representing Buena Park Junior High will be:

  1. Team 1: Wendy Ahn, Robyn Shin, Chloe Serrano
  2. Team 2: Mackenzie Shane, Amber Lee, Mackenzie Mauldin
  3. Team 3: Grace Yo, Celina Yang, Eric Um

Good luck debaters and lets get this bread!
