Montana Paxton, Staff Writer

We have thousands of men and women in the armed forces serving our country. They deserve recognition for this and that’s why May 18 is Armed Forces Day. Whether our heroes are in the Navy, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, or the Marine Corps, they are all out there risking their lives for our country. We actually wouldn’t be having Armed Forces Day if it wasn’t for President Harry S. Truman, who led an effort to establish a holiday in order for citizens to unite and to honor our military. The first Armed Forces Day took place on May 20, 1950 and in 1961, John F Kennedy announced this to be a national holiday. So celebrate Armed Forces Day by thanking our heroic military and appreciating the work they’ve done for us.
